Project 54 at Street Shop Inc

PROJECT NAME: 72Ls7

CHASSIS: Street Shop Inc. C4 Shark

STATUS: Completed

This project began as a decent driver quality 72 Coupe. The stock chassis was replaced with a Street Shop chassis using an LS7 engine, Tremec 5 speed and Dana 44 rear. The owner wanted to keep a stock appearance, so 17 x 8” Billet Rally wheels were painted and we mounted 255/45/17 tires all the way around. The coupe was an original Air car, but a Classic Auto A/C system was installed to give more firewall room for the LS7’s Dry Sump oil tank.

When completed, this 72 is a seriously bad coupe.

Disassembly is slow process. Here we lift the body from its original chassis.

Slowly and carefully the body is lifted from the stock frame.

The stock chassis is pulled away from the body.

To aid in the detailing of the underhood and floorpan, the body is placed on a dolly.

The stock rolling chassis is offered for sale

as we will not need this any longer.

After detailing, the body is lowered onto the Street Shop Chassis.

With the wiring harness scattered over the engine, under the hood doesn’t look much at this point.

New 5 link C4 suspension and coil-over shocks will keep the 72 flat in the corners.

Undercar view shows how well the Street Shop, Inc. chassis fits the stock floorpan with no fiberglass trimming whatsoever.

Here, the C4 front suspension is clean and ready for action.

This picture shows the stock mechanical clutch linkage back in the stock location but on a new LS7 engine.

Seat belt cable locations are marked, drilled and reattached using rivetnut fasteners.

A removeable transmission crossmember will make any future servicing much easier.

After mounting the body, the new 72 is ready for the final assembly steps.
